Whether You Have Internal Staff or an IT Consultant, Know Your Passwords!

Too often business managers do not want to even think about IT, they just want it to work. This can work at times, but it can also come back to haunt you. One place this may happen is with administrative passwords for your network and computers.

Far too often, we have seen companies that could not get administrative access to their network or computers. The only person with the password was an internal IT person who quit or an IT consultant who was not reachable. This can cause your business to grind to a halt.

Would you make one set of keys to your office building and give it to only one employee? Of course not! However, that is essentially what you are doing with your administrative passwords. That is why we highly recommend that the business owner or manager maintain a copy of all administrative passwords for your company. Even if you do not know how to use them, you can provide them to the right person if the need arises.
