Important security vulnerability you should know about

There is a security vulnerability that we thought was important to share with San Diego business leaders. You may have heard about a new web vulnerability on "secure" websites (websites using "https" in the address). Many of these websites are no longer secure and are leaking sensitive information, like passwords. The issue has been nicknamed "Heartbleed" and is being widely covered by the media. Here is one example:

What Action Should I Take?

1) Protect Yourself

Don't log in to any secure website whose status you aren't sure about. You can test a site at http://filippo.io/Heartbleed/. You should log in and change your password only after you are sure the website has patched the problem and is no longer vulnerable to attack. Logging in and changing your password while the website is still vulnerable only opens you up to having both your old and your new password stolen.

2) Protect Your Site Visitors

Test your website with http://filippo.io/Heartbleed/ to ensure it is secure. If there are any vulnerabilities, fixes are available. Contact your webmaster to resolve the issue.
