“Real integrity is doing the right thing, knowing that nobody’s going to know whether you did it or not.” --Oprah Winfrey
Does your IT Team have your company's best interest in mind? Too often, we have heard of managed IT service providers giving recommendations to clients that are good for the managed services provider’s bottom line, but not for the client’s. That lacks integrity and undermines trust in the whole industry, and we want to help businesses prevent it! While we are all in business to make money, the job of a Managed Service Provider is to be on the side of a client. They should not be trying to pad their bottom line at the expense of a client.
One of the reasons this happens is that IT service providers are resellers for different hardware and software. So, rather than selling a client the best solution, they sell them the one that mostly meets their needs and makes the IT service provider a commission.
To avoid this issue, be sure to ask whether your Managed IT Service Provider resells any hardware or software, or or whether they make a commission on anything they sell. While this may not be a reason to not do business with them (although we believe it is), you want to be sure that you pay particularly close attention when they make a recommendation where they stand to profit from the sale. You may even want to get a second opinion on whether the purchase is necessary or if there is a better solution to the problem.
