Does your work leave you feeling drained or fulfilled? Many business leaders would definitely say “drained” and I certainly know the feeling. That is why I wanted to share something with you that could change that feeling.
Five-and-a-half years ago, I started Skyriver IT to change the IT industry and I am proud of our accomplishments to date. However, the first four years of building the business really drained me. From outside everything looked good, but on the inside I felt empty. We were so focused on our aggressive growth plans that our successes didn’t mean much, because we were constantly off to the next goal.
A little over a year ago, I was looking for ways for my work to be more fulfilling, and I started reading a book that a college friend had given to me some 10 years prior. This book is called Zhuan Falun and introduces a spiritual practice called Falun Dafa. The principles of this practice touched my heart and I have incorporated them into my daily life and business practices.
The book explains that the universe is built on three main characteristics:
- Truthfulness
- Compassion
- Tolerance
By incorporating these characteristics in our day-to-day life, we are always considerate of others first. We are calm, patient and honest. Plus, we consider the long term in all of our relationships. Taking this approach has made me much happier and the drained feeling is gone.
So while I am just as driven to have Skyriver IT succeed as ever, it is now with a different mindset and approach. We are building an ever stronger culture and team. Plus clients can expect us to show up in the spirit of truthfulness, compassion and tolerance.
And if 2014 is any indicator, it has made Skyriver IT more prosperous with a rapidly growing list of clients.
May 2015 bring you more Peace and Prosperity!
