Do You Find “IT Service” to be an Oxymoron? It Shouldn’t Be...

Having researched the industry and talked to many companies about their pain around IT, I found the biggest problem in IT Services is that far too many IT people care more about technology than end users. The typical IT technician sees themselves as part of the IT infrastructure and not as a service provider for end users. And this is true of both internal and outsourced IT people.

Choose IT People Who Truly Caring About Users

If you are in the market for an IT services vendor or internal IT staff, make sure they understand their job is to ensure that technology works and end users can use it. If something is broken, and a user cannot do his or her job, the priority should be on getting that user up and running as soon as possible. And when evaluating new technologies, the focus should be on usability for end users.

Having an IT team that cares about end users makes the difference between a great IT experience and lots of frustration. Of course, IT people also need to have the technical skills and experience to do the job. However, it is much easier to find IT people with the right technical skills than technicians who truly care about end users.
